Message from the President

To all of our Gena members I wish each and everyone a good day.  Today, I wish to write and communicate with each of you regarding our last meeting, our upcoming meeting in July, and other interesting stuff.  First of all, if you missed June 8th meeting, you missed a good one.  Mark Patrick, was our speaker and he brought to each and everyone great information concerning Taxes, Wills, Trusts and much more interesting information that concerns every citizen.  Our committee Chair People gave their reports and we learned about several things that are going on in our community.  I urge each and everyone of you to make a date to be at our GENA meetings for the information learned at the meetings affects our way of life in Englewood.
Next month, John Palombi who chairs the Taxation, Revenue and Utilization of Expenditures Commission, a watchdog group, that will be speaking to us on all of these subjects.  This should concern each and every resident who resides not only in Englewood, but also in our County.  So mark the date, July 13th, at Cuba Hunter Park at 7:00 p.m.  Folks, we will learn.
On another subject that I wish to speak on is regarding a well known Sponsor of GENA's and that is "The American Legion, Post 88," located on Spring Park Road.  This is a wonderful Organization who are known for all they do for our Returning Veterans and for all Veterans of all Wars.  To the American Legion these folks are all Heroes and they are treated as such.  They are active in so many ways, not just as a Social Club, but they work with Children, with Veteran Families, and contribute in so many ways as well as to our Disabled Veterans that are returning from War.  I can say this because I know, as my husband Jeryl and I are both members.
Today, I am writing for we also have GENA members that are also Post 88 Members and we are most grateful for all they do for us.  The American Legion has been a Sponsor of GENA for the last several years.  When GENA began gathering supplies to send to our military over seas we went alone with it.  My husband and I did the mailing out and getting it to the Post Office.  GENA, paid the full expense of this.  I think the most we paid out to have our packages mailed was something like over $300.00.  In May of 2008 essentials were collected again for our military and taken to the Post and combined with what they had collected and Post 88 paid the entire bill.  GENA, paid nothing.  Post 88, does this twice a year, and last fall again did a collection and even though we did not have a mailing last fall, GENA'S name was included on the mailouts for as Commander Benney stated to me, "we have been partners for several years, and we do not wish to leave GENA out".  In 2007, Jeryl Holler and Larry Horne emptied their freezers of all fish (as they are both fishermen), they cooked the fish and sold "Fish Dinners", and  the money they made was contributed to the Post and it was used for the cost of the mailouts of packages to our military.  Packages from GENA members were included.  Again, GENA paid nothing.
I bring this to each and everyone of you, for the American Legion not only serves our community in so many ways, but have been a wonderful Sponsor for GENA.  If you are interested, please stop in and visit with these folks, and learn all the wonderful things they do.  They will make you feel at home and you will walk away feeling as if you have met some new friends.
In closing, I thank each and everyone of you for your attendance at our meeting Monday night and I am anticipating a great crowd in our upcoming meeting in July.  Come out and learn what exactly is happening.  Thanking you for your time I look forward to seeing you soon.  Jeanie Holler

Hello to all.
I need your help with getting a cat adopted.
Ann, a sweet 84 year old friend of mine in now in a nursing home.  She has a black male cat named "Blacky" (Imagine that!)
Blacky needs a nice home.  He is clawless (front paws).  He is an inside cat.  Has never ever been outside.  He eats dry food. He is solid black!
I do not know his age.  I have been assisting Ann for the last 4 years. He lived in her home when I began.
If you know of someone that will give him a nice home, please let me know.

Thank You, I so hope you can help!

When daylight saving time begins on Sunday, new watering restrictions will also take effect in the St. Johns River Water Management District.

Landscape irrigation will be limited to no more than two days per week. Homes with odd-numbered addresses, or no addresses, can water their lawns on Wednesday and Saturday. Homes with even-numbered addresses are allowed to water on Thursday and Sunday. Non-residential irrigation is allowed on Tuesday and Friday. Once daylight saving time ends, irrigation will be limited to one day a week. Homes with odd-numbered addresses or no addresses can water Saturday, and homes with even numbered addresses can water Sunday.
The new watering restrictions also include a limit on how much water can be used. It will be limited to 3/4" of water per zone per day. Also, watering is limited to one hour per zone per day.
The current rule prohibiting all irrigation between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. remains in effect.
There are some exceptions to the regulations. For example, new landscaping can be irrigated at any time of any day for the first 30 days, and every other day for the next 30 days.
For more information on these restrictions, visit the St. Johns River Water Management District's Web site.

Litter Day in Englewood

Saturday, June 13th, dawned bright and hot and at 9:00 a.m. five very gallant brave soldiers met at the Circle and begin what is known as Litter Patrol.  These brave soldiers who endured the heat were Billie and Lowell Griffith, Gerald Harper and Tom Roycraft and of course myself.  Time after time these folks have soldiered on, and I am so proud to know these fine people who come religiously rain or shine, cold or heat.
I am so sorry we have so little interest from our members in doing litter patrol, as it would certainly make a difference. With more support we would be able to attend to a much larger area as well as have completed the task long before that ole sun got up so high.
Due to the heat and other factors we will no longer be having litter patrol through the summer's hot months.  Depending on the support and the interest we will determine at a later date, whether to continue on through the year.  To Billie and Lowell and Gerald and Tom, we indeed thank you for all you do.  Jh
