Greater Englewood Neighborhood Association
Hello Englewood!!
It is always exciting to begin a New Year.
Thank you for your support and encouragement as I have accepted the role as your Vice President for the 2010 year.
With this in mind, I am coming to you for your help. First of all, by taking the role of Vice President, a chair has opened for Membership. I have enjoyed getting to know our meeting attendees each month. As membership chair I was able to bring new ideas to GENA for record keeping and also trying to assist you in learning your neighbor’s names by making name badges. This has been a very rewarding experience. If you are interested in getting to know your neighbors better and have some time to commit to your neighborhood, PLEASE consider talking with me about taking the position of membership chair.
We are coming up on an exciting meeting Monday night and hope that you will find value in Mark Patrick’s presentation. Please come and show your support of our neighborhood! We have moved social time to 6:30pm. The meeting will still begin at 7. Also just a friendly reminder – we are collecting items for our troops. Please bring what you can.
Finally I urge you to become a part of this wonderful organization. I know we all have busy schedules, but we hope you can find time once a month to join us at our meeting and also to always keep an eye out around your neck of the woods. We would LOVE for you to join our organization and be part of your Neighborhood Association. GENA is only as good as those who support, guide, direct and participate. The fee is very nominal – we hope you will consider.
We look forward to this year!
Always feel free to contact any of us for more information on becoming a member or how you can volunteer.
Best regards,
Mandy Butler
Vice President
Dear Friends:
Earlier today I, along with Council President Richard Clark, announced the city’s plan to actively engage citizens in this year’s budget process. Through the launch of a new Web site, dedicated solely to the budget process, and the creation of community budget workshops, it is my hope that citizens find these tools helpful ways to contribute to the budget conversation. Each year when we begin the conversation about our city’s budget, it is always our goal to engage a broad number of citizens and solicit their input in every step of that process. This year, we are beginning that discussion earlier, with a greater emphasis on transparency.
Please visit the Web site at http://www.myjaxbudget.com. There you will find information about the budget process, the city’s revenue and expenses, along with the services that government provides and how much it costs to provide them.
As part of this effort you are also invited to attend one of six budget workshops and engage in dialogue with other citizens and city leaders about government services. You will also be asked to provide feedback about your own priorities for government services. With the help of Jacksonville Community Council Inc., data collected at each budget workshop will be compiled and a report highlighting the results of the workshops will be posted on the Web site.
Because seats are limited, those interested in attending the workshops must register in advance by visiting the Web site or by calling (904) 630-2747.
Through informed citizen participation, elected leaders will have a better understanding of how to prioritize spending, provide services and move the city towards a prosperous future.
Sincerely,
John Peyton
